NETFLIX releases 'Sunrise' a 2014 international release and a multiple award winning movie

Two scripts of Adil Hussain starred movie Sunrise and Parched, very few scripts of the films produced from India to be archived at the library of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences

Sunrise is a drama film directed and written by Partho Sen-Gupta , released in 2014 internationally. Sunrise just released in India on NETFLIX  on March 15th, 2017. It tells the story of a police officer, played excellently by Adil Hussain as Inspector Lakshman Joshi  , a grieving father, searching for his daughter Aruna, who was kidnapped years ago at the age of six and is hell-bent on settling the scores with the abductor.  Along with Sunrise the other Adil Hussain Starrer ‘Parched’ film’s script to be archived at the library of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

Sunrise , whose production and technical team are Franco-Indian, is screened at numerous international festivals where it is awarded several times at Amsterdam, Durban and Munich Film Festivals.

SYNOPSIS 

"Sunrise", directed by Partho Sen-Gupta starring Adi Hussain and Tannishtha Chatterjee, is the story of Inspector Joshi, in his despair, life converges with a recurring dream in which Joshi pursues a shadowy figure who leads him to 'Paradise', a night-club where teenage girls dance to a leering crowd. He is convinced he will find Aruna there and vows to bring her back to Leela, his broken wife. The life of Lakshman Joshi, a policeman in Mumbai, has been shattered since his daughter was kidnapped ten years earlier. While his wife sinks into denial and continues to tell stories to their child, he tracks down the slightest clue that could put him on the track of the kidnappers.A recurring dream leads him to think that a serious track is at the Paradise, a night bar where young teenagers dance before an audience of libidinous adults.

WRITER / DIRECTOR’S BIO

Partho Sen-Gupta was born in Mumbai, India. He started his career as an apprentice in the art department in the studios of ‘Bollywood’ at the age of 17. He then set up his own design studio and worked on numerous advertising films and feature films, designing sets and specializing in SFX. He was Art director on Alain Corneau’s Nocturne Indien, shot in India in 1989. In 1993, he was awarded a scholarship to study film direction at the FEMIS, the French film institute in Paris. He made four short films that took him to different European film festivals at which he won several awards. After graduation, he made his first feature film, ‘Hava Aney Dey’ – Let the wind Blow’ (93 mins, Hindi) which premiered at the 2004 Berlin International lm festival. It was also selected by many other major international lm festivals and won awards. It was screened at the MoMa, NYC for the Global Film Initiative’s Global Lens 2008 series. His new award winning feature film Sunrise (Arunoday), an Indo-French coproduction with Adil Hussain and Tannishtha Chatterjee, premiered at the 19th Busan International film festival in the New Currents Competition section and since has been selected at numerous international film festivals like Tribeca FF, Munich Int. FF etc. He now lives and works in Sydney, Australia.

ADIL HUSSAIN is a  Graduate from the National School of Drama, New Delhi, he has acted on the stage nationally & internationally for last 13 years. He played Pi’s father in Ang Lee’s The Life of Pi and in an Italian production of Mahasweta Devi’s Gangor by Italo Spinelli, which premiered at the Rome International Film Festival. He works in both Bollywood mainstream films and independent Indian films. He is a visiting Faculty member at the National School of Drama, New Delhi and Film and Television Institute of India, Pune for last several years where he teaches acting.
